Managing Your Yoto Library: Uploads, AI Metadata, and Organization

By Samuel Coe, founder of Coe Code LLC

Last Updated: March 5, 2026

Yoto Guardian's Library Manager lets you upload custom audiobooks directly to your Yoto family library — the same library accessible from the official Yoto app and your Yoto players. You can upload individual titles or process multiple books at once, with optional AI assistance to generate metadata and chapter icons automatically.

Supported File Formats

The Library Manager accepts the following audio formats:

  • MP3
  • AAC
  • M4A
  • OGG
  • Opus

Upload your audio files as a zip archive or as a folder. Each zip or folder becomes one audiobook in your library.

The Upload Wizard

The upload wizard walks you through each step of preparing your audiobook for the Yoto library:

  1. Drop your files — Drag a zip file or folder of audio files onto the upload area, or click to browse.
  2. Organize tracks — Review the detected tracks, reorder them if needed, and assign chapter numbers.
  3. Set metadata — Enter the book title, author, and a description. When AI access is available, title, author, description, and category suggestions are generated automatically.
  4. Choose artwork — Upload cover art for the card. If you use AI, icon suggestions for each chapter are provided.
  5. Upload — The wizard uploads the audio files and metadata to your Yoto family library. Once complete, the card is immediately available on all Yoto players in your account.

AI Metadata Generation

Yoto Guardian integrates with Anthropic Claude and OpenAI to generate metadata for your uploaded audiobooks. When AI is configured, the wizard can:

  • Suggest a title based on audio file names and extracted metadata
  • Suggest an author and category
  • Write a description for the card
  • Suggest icon images for each chapter

To ensure AI access, go to Settings and enter your Anthropic or OpenAI API key. When available, Yoto Guardian may also provide shared AI access. Stored user keys are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage and are used only to make API calls on your behalf. You can delete stored keys at any time from Settings.

AI metadata generation is optional — you can upload and configure books manually without an API key.

Bulk Upload

To upload multiple audiobooks at once, use bulk upload mode. Drop multiple zip files onto the upload area. Yoto Guardian processes each zip as a separate audiobook and runs AI metadata generation across books in parallel (with throttling) when AI access is available. It then shows a results summary when complete. This is useful when adding a large collection at once, such as a series of chapter books.

The Library Page

The Library page in Yoto Guardian shows all cards in your Yoto family library. From here you can:

  • Browse all cards including Yoto store purchases and uploaded custom titles
  • View card details, track listings, and artwork
  • Configure playback rules for any card
  • Access the upload wizard for new custom content

Playback Rules

Playback rules let you customize behavior for specific cards. Rules are tied to individual cards, so each book or playlist can have its own behavior:

  • Auto-skip: Automatically skip specific tracks when they come up during playback — useful for skipping intro music or tracks not appropriate for the current listener
  • Stop after chapter: Pause playback when a specific track or chapter ends — great for “one more chapter” situations
  • Transition to card: When a card finishes, automatically switch to a different card — for example, switching to a sleep playlist after the last chapter ends

Access playback rules from the Library page or from the device card while a card is actively playing on a device.

Stop After

The “Stop After” control appears on the device card whenever something is playing. Tap it to tell the player to stop after the current track or chapter finishes. This is a one-time action — it does not create a persistent rule — and is useful for “one more story” moments without configuring a full playback rule.
