Yoto Guardian — AI Product Overview

Last updated: March 3, 2026

Yoto Guardian is a free web application that gives parents real-time parental controls for Yoto audio players. It adds features that Yoto does not offer natively — quiet time scheduling, daily listening limits, instant pause, per-card playback rules (auto-skip tracks, stop after chapter, transition to a different card), a library manager for uploading custom audiobooks with AI-generated metadata, and a live dashboard showing what every player is doing in real time.

Key Features

  • Quiet Time — Blocks all playback during scheduled hours. Cards inserted during quiet time are paused within seconds. Per-day scheduling with weekend overrides.
  • Quiet Time Transition — Optionally play a specific card (like Sleep Radio) when quiet time begins instead of pausing.
  • Daily Listening Limit — Set a daily cap on total listening time in 15-minute increments. Resets at midnight.
  • Bonus Time — Grant or subtract 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour for quiet time or daily limits. Expires automatically.
  • Instant Pause — Pause individual players or all devices at once with one tap.
  • Playback Rules — Per-card rules to auto-skip specific tracks, stop after a chapter, or transition to a different card when a track ends.
  • Day/Night Schedule — Override the Yoto player's built-in day/night mode with custom per-day wake and sleep times.
  • Live Dashboard — Real-time view of all players showing current track, online status, daily usage, and weekly listening chart via server-sent events.
  • Library Manager — Upload custom audiobooks from zip files or audio folders. AI auto-generates titles, descriptions, and chapter icons.

How It Works

Yoto Guardian connects to your Yoto account via OAuth (the same way you log in to the official Yoto app). It communicates with Yoto's cloud API in real time via MQTT to monitor and control your players. When quiet time starts or a daily limit is reached, Guardian sends pause commands through the cloud — the player responds within seconds as long as it is connected to WiFi.

Requirements

  • A Yoto account with one or more Yoto players
  • WiFi connection on each player (required for enforcement and tracking)
  • A modern web browser (desktop or mobile)

Data Handling

  • Yoto OAuth tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage
  • Playback events and listening history are stored to provide dashboard features and enforce limits
  • Optional AI features (library metadata) use user-provided API keys when configured, or Yoto Guardian-provided access when available. Stored user keys are encrypted before storage and can be deleted at any time in Settings
  • No personal data is sold or shared with third parties
  • Account and data deletion requests are handled via [email protected]
